Discord also recognizes buttons from various controllers or, as in my case, a throttle from HOTAS. And it is a good idea if I could adjust the overall volume of the PC system (and thus the game) independently of the volume of the Discord conversation partners with a rotary knob on my input device (throttle).

Turn knob to the left = Button1 = volume down
Turn knob to the right = Button2 = volume up

Really wondering as to why this is confusing...
He wants to assign the discord volume up and down to his HOTAS Rotary. Good idea!

    Hello TheZepter,

I did not understand your concerns. Can you maybe make a video and upload it to YouTube?
    (Maybe with a gesture sprace)

You often have it when you play a game and you can't hear the people in Discord so well because the game is too loud. At the moment I would have to switch from the game to Windows and make Discord louder with the volume mixer or you would have to turn down the game sound. But if I now had the choice for the Discord volume and the total volume of the system under "HOTKEYS" in Discord, I could adjust this comfortably at my input device (HOTAS) without having to leave the game. If this is still not understood now, I give up..... It doesn't make sense to create a video for this...

    Thanks !

Volume control hotkeys are an essential no brainer control for any voice program. Not being about to adjust the volume of discord on the fly in game is a HUGE problem that every other voice program figures out as STEP ONE. External controller support is a separate issue. Having the volume hotkey assignment is the first step that I can't believe hasn't been added to discord yet.

Please please please, add in the option to have a keybind to change the output volume.  This is so important when gaming and you can't afford to alt-tab to discord to change volume, especially in VR.

I have tried using nircmd to do it, but discord has two instances in volume mixer (why?) and it changes the one that chat does not come through.

All I want is any way of using a shortcut/script/autohotkey to be able to change discord output volume on the fly.  And it appears I am not the only one.  So easy to do - please give this some (brief) attention.

THIS is EXACTLY what i also need. I am a Sim Racer and sometimes i can't hear my teammates over the engine noise etc while on track. I cant just pause and then go into windows settings and adjust volumes. Sometimes i just want piece and quiet to concentrate without listening to chatter. I need an option to adjust this volume on the fly with a volume up/down mapped to my wheel or button box.

I feel you man!!! How can this NOT be an option?!

I simrace with friends online every week while skyping. But some cars are louder than other cars, so the skype volume needs to be upped or I can't hear my friends anymore.

It's really frustrating to ALT TAB your game to Windows Volume mixer and change this every time.

I just downloaded Discord because it's supposed to be so much better, but this basic option is not implemented??

    FYI

I found this thread. On how to change specific applications volume with shorcuts. Haven't tried it, but I hope it works.

Very dissappointed in Discord for not implementing this function though

You can use a MIDI controller (I'm using Korg NanoKontrol2) and the PowerMixer software that allow to link by MIDI protocol anyone of the knobs and faders for control the volume of windows aplications, main volume, windows sounds, etc... The actions on Power Mixer are applied directly to Windows10 mixer.

I have a main volume fader, a discord fader, a chrome fader,... And a knob for the volume of everyone of the games I'm playing actualy.

Then, with OBSMidiRemote (opennsource but documentation only in Hungarian,... google Translate powaaah!!!) you can assign some controls to Streamlabs actions like scene swap, start/stop stream and star/stop record.

It sounds like he is trying to make it so he can just adjust the Discord volume (and only the Discord volume). Rather than using the general volume to adjust every program (i.e. Discord, video game, Spotify, etc). So if a feature were to implemented by the devs he would be able to keybind and adjust Discord volume separately for people in a voice channel. This way he can turn up/down the volumes of other people in the voice channel without having to do it directly on Discord or using the general volume to do so.

If anyone uses AutoHotkey (AHK) to run other hotkeys on their PC I found an easy way to do this. I'm actually running a script to change any program's volume with a hotkey. It's simple, idrk how to share this knowledge lol.

@Hector, Can you upload the script?

Yes, please, at least add a "Discord general volume up" and "down" hotkey option!

Hello, I'd like to sign this request too.
My usecase is also simracing: I want to assign discord volume up/down to a controller input, so that I can easily adjust voice volume level in-game.
Providing a "volume up" and a "volume down" hotkey seems to be a feasible implementation. The hotkeys should either increment or decrement the discord volume in steps of at least 1% and not mor than 5%.

Come on Discord! This thread has been going on for 2 years now.

Please listen to your users. Meanwhile I'm driving in VR, so it's even more difficult to change the volume individually

    Would also much appreciate this!

It's nice to change the volume of Game and Discord independently

This is pretty easy to accomplish in AutoHotkey (AHK) to bind the hotkeys, then NirCmd to trigger the Increase/Decrease of the Discord application's volume. Keep in mind, this is a workaround, so the volume for the ENTIRE discord application is decreased in Windows Volume Mixer (not just the voice output, other output sounds are decreased as well--so you may have trouble hearing sounds like the "boop" sound that occurs when you trigger your mic for push-to-talk).

Here's the link from above on how to use NirCmd application to manipulate the volume in Windows Volume Mixer: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/6rr9xc/discord_vs_game_volume_keyboard_shortcuts/

From there, just use basic functionality of Hotkeys and Run commands in AutoHotkey to get your joystick/wheel button to trigger the execution. These aspects are basic functionality from the AutoHotkey Tutorial. https://www.autohotkey.com/

I agree though that this should be supported natively in Discord (seems pretty basic for those of us in VR).

Thanks for this. But it tried this, and it only works half of the time. For some reason there are multiple "discord.exe" in Windows Volume Mixer. One for the application itself, and one for the conversation your in.

It just chooses randomly, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I need exactly this feature: Adjusting the discord volume in relation the the volume of the rest of the system while in-game.

  • Bill Smithem

This is ridiculously bad support. If the software already has a control for volume, and the ability to add key binds, why are users STILL waiting for this four years later?? Saying there's a kludge around this doesn't cut it.

  • borespeak son

How is this still not a thing. Team speak has had this feature for over a decade. Like Bill smithem  said, discord has volume functionality and it has key binding functionality but they cant figure out how to raise and lower all users at once?
