[Bug] Duplicate emoji from Windows
Every time I type an emoji from the Windows 10 Emoji picker into Discord (running in new MS Edge), two identical emoji appear in the text field. This seems to be specific to Discord.
-
This happend because discord uses these emojis as escape characters so it can expand the amount of emojis possible. You can have custom emojis in your server and that's why the UTF-24 emojis are not enough. It would be an expensive thing to fix.

I have the same Problem with the Discord App since the latest Update. Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm
Does discord team knows this?1 -
bug persists, discord is still doubling inputs from win emoji picker
I can confirm that windows is only sending one emoji but discord is adding a second one for some unknown reason1 -
The weird thing is that this issue is over a year old, but the problem only appeared a few days ago for me...

Yeah same, only got the double emojis the other day. Been using Discord with the Windows emoji picker for years

I might’ve been using a beta version of Windows, so maybe that’s why nobody else has had this issue until now

Same issue here with Windows 10, latest update 21H1 and web discord on Edge

This still happens to me. It's honestly terrible because I've developed muscle memory of deleting the extra emoji. When I use emojis in other apps I end up deleting the emoji immediately accidentally...

The bug persist, every time I press Win + . (dot) and I select an emoji in Discord, an extra emoji appears 🙁🙁

Any solution yet? The bug persists, and it's very anoing.

Still experiencing this, 11/11/2021

Can confirm. I almost exclusively use the windows emoji picker with Win+period shortcut.
And the past few weeks it puts in double emojies.

Same for me as of Nov 15 2021. Using Windows 11 and Chrome.

windows 11 and discord app both latest (as of now); the glitch still exists

I never got this bug until some 2 or so weeks ago. Unsure if a Windows update caused it to start happening or a Discord one, but now I learn it's a year old bug that I wasn't experiencing until now for some reason

Shameless bump, it's still happening on my end.

UGH! It's infuriating!
Win 10 - Started a few (maybe 3) months ago...So roughly Sept 2021...
I think i used to have it happen in YT and basically everywhere I tried using emoji's via WIN + > key....
Now it's only still happening on Discord and I have googled and searched for solutions!
I can't find any!
DISCORD, PLEEEEASE FIX DOUBLE EMOJI GLITCH!3 -
I've noticed it happens to me in discord but also another program I can't remember at this moment, could actually be a windows bug and not a discord one
1 -
I happens to me in YT now too. But not in Messenger, which is also in the browser at messenger.com.
So it might be a problem regarding how services use the windows API. Maybe Microsoft changed something? It could be a Chromium thing too? both Discord and my Opera browser is based on Chromium for it's browser engine (discord is made with Electron, which is basically a chromium browser).

Yep, still ongoing. Very annoying when responding to YouTube comments as well. Must be a Windows thing, but then again, I see few people talk about it for whatever reason. 🤔

I know this is a super old thread, but I found a solution.
Settings -> Text & Images and then uncheck Use slash commands to preview emojis, mentions, and markdown syntax as you typeHope this helps you as well.

I've confirmed that the solution Tjockas posted works, but I don't want to lose the markdown syntax preview features.

As of today I noticed that the Windows emoji picker doesn't input 2 emojies anymore :O
And I haven't disabled the "Use slash commands" in settings.
Can other confirm this?
1 -
I can confirm! I noticed a few days ago but wasn't sure if it was a discord or windows update that fixed this
1 -
It still happens on youtube though. But this thread is about discord, so I'd call fixed if more can confirm :)
As a side note, Steam no longer supports input from Windows emoji picker. Guess they'd like people to spend steam points on emojis 🙄🙄 But it still works in the android app lol.

Happens to me in multiple apps not just discord

Same here. It happens with all apps.
However I managed to find the source of the problem.
Go to Settings → Time & Language → Spelling, typing & keyboard settings → Advanced keyboard settings
There Under 'Emoji panel' uncheck "Don't close the panel automatically after an emoji has been entered"
Et voila, no more duplicate emojis!!
