When muted microphone it doesn't mute

When you "mute" yourself in order for people not to hear you. It then says that you are muted, but my friends can still hear what I am saying even though it says I'm "muted"(meaning the mute icon is shown). So in order for them to actually not hear me I then have to Server mute my mic, which I don't always have access to, so in servers I don't have access to server mute and "mute" my mic the people can still hear what I am saying.
