Automatically scroll down in chats by double clicking the channel name
Hi! I'm thinking of a feature for text channels in Discord servers. I came across a post that tackles a similar issue, but it's 2 years old and I'm coming up with an idea to allow this feature to be triggered.
Context
Many messages in Discord servers are not relevant to me. Think of messages in a general chat or subject-specific channel. Now, I could mute those channels or even hide them by closing the entire category. but that's not entirely what I'm looking for and doesn't solve the issue I encounter, as I would still participate in those channels from time to time -- it's not really an issue, but more like an inconvenience, and finding something for this would highly benefit the UX.
Issue
All right, so hear me out. Right now, there's no way to automatically scroll a text channel all the way to the bottom to skip all the (for me unnecessary to read) banter of others, unless you have one of those fancy mouses that can disable segment scrolling -- and that's not really a solution, as applications, should not depend on third-party software or hardware.
Scrolling down manually isn't much of a problem when there are like 10 unread messages, but it becomes more inconvenient when there are around 100 messages waiting for you.
Possible Solution(s)
So, what I propose is a feature where you could just double-click a text channel. And this would 1) Open the concerning text channel. 2) Automatically mark every message in that text channel as read (optional, maybe make this toggleable). And 3) Scroll all the way to the bottom, to the newest messages.
OR (and this is probably easier to develop): A feature where this is just a configuration in the User Settings. Though for me it is not always desirable to automatically scroll down in a chat. I'm a fan of choice, so I'd prefer the first solution.
