Built in Server Backups
Idea:
The way this would work would be like any other cloud backup software such as livedrive. In this case discord would design it to take a full backup image each week then incremental backups each day until a full backup happens at the end of the week. The backup software would not be a pick and choose certain channels it will do a full one including channels, content in channels, roles and role permissions.
The backup software would keep two other backups from 2/3 previous weeks in case a backup gets corrupted when you need to restore. The software should allow owners to have full control over it and be able to export the backup to their local machine or own backup software to keep it safe just in case.
Owners of the server should have 2FA setup on their account to stop any access to the backup. If a server gets raided or a staff member starts deleting channels after the person is banned the owner can restore the latest image from the backup software which may take a bit of time as the software will have to check what has been deleted to not create duplicate channels or roles.
The server owner should be allowed to give a user with administrator rights the backup in case they are going top be away from discord and something happens. Admins cannot delete any backups just restore.
Pricing:
I would not expect discord to release this feature for free due to it potentially taking up a lot of system resources in storing the data.
i would say there would be two ways to go about this.
1) Free way where users have to have their own hardware to backup it all up themselves. Discord would release a guide for doing it yourself - The user will have to manage it all by themselves and won't have a lot of support from discord if something goes wrong.
2) Paid way on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis pay plan. The final prices will come down to your server size. For example there may be fixed prices for smaller servers like 100 - 1,000/5,000. After that owners will need to use some sort of calculator and enter how many members, roles and channels they have for a final cost.
The main reason for this feature is if your server could be raided. Personally I've been on discord since 2017 and an admin on a 60k+ server since Sep 2019, in that time to now it's been raided twice. First time by a rogue moderator and second by someone who impersonated me and an admin gave them admin rights. Having to re create a lot of channels/roles and get all our server events setup again was not ideal however if servers had a backup system where it could restore channels, roles, role permissions and content in those channels that would be fantastic.

Love this idea! Hope it gets some traction. 👍🏻👍🏻

this is a great idea actually, it could work similar to server templates, where it goes into a link and you could either choose to make a new server with this, or restore another server you have ownership of.
