Quoting AND replying

I'll start this off by saying that I love the reply feature. It's an extremely useful and well-integrated tool that I've enjoyed using. However, I frequently find myself wanting to simply reference a message instead of replying to it, and in turn, just replying to a message with "." in order to be able to send it. It's in these situations that I find myself wishing I could just quote it. It could be simple as integrating it as a format option rather than a thing you do to a message, maybe even both. But have both the quote feature and the reply feature and you're golden.
