Unread message badge (red dot) not working in OsX Big Sur
I upgraded to OsX Big Sur a few days ago, and since then the unread message badge on the Discord icon stopped working. Even if there are new unread PMs waiting, the task bar icon remains pristine.
Any chance of this getting fixed? I rather liked this feature, and moved to Discord for chatting after a Steam update broke this feature on their side a couple years back.

just updated, having the same issue :/

Got an email notification, forgot all about this thread.
Big Sur has this super annoying habit of asking you about notification permissions for just about every last app that you run. Apparently one of those apps is Discord, and I shooed this notification away with the rest of them.
The solution was to delete Discord, remove the Discord folder in `~/Library/Application Support` (I also checked `/Library/Application Support` but didn't have one there), empty trash, then reinstall Discord and make sure that when the little notification pop-up appears I allow it. All credit to the person who wrote me back when I actually emailed tech support - I didn't know that was a thing, ergo this post.

Oh my god thank you for responding so quickly! I was just about to submit a ticket!

Okay, I reinstalled, and still nothing. I don't even get push notifications!

I think deleting the `~/Library/Application Support/discord` folder is pretty important to the process, as there are some configuration things stored there. If deleting the folder after uninstalling and prior to reinstalling still doesn't do it, probably email tech support. Maybe I just got lucky with my case being easy.

I was also having this problem, and found a much easier solution. If you go into the system preferences, there is a notifications pane where you can turn on notifications for discord. Make sure that "badge app icon" is checked; you don't need any of the other options on.

TheEvilMayor I am SO confused, because discord doesn't even show up there for me??

Huh. That is strange! Mine definitely shows up there.

I solved this problem of Discord not showing the unread badge numbers in macOS Big Sur by uninstalling Discord and reinstalling. I uninstalled by opening Finder > Applications > clicking Discord and deleting. I reinstalled by going to Discord's website and downloading the macOS client, double-clicking the .dmg file, and then click-and-dragging the Discord icon to the Applications folder.
When I launched the new Discord and friends sent me private messages, my unread messages badge is working properly, without having to set any security settings in macOS.
