Augh... Good feature, shit implementation. This is a non-starter for a lot of guilds, honestly. We have a number of people in ours who're scattered across the globe, and say we have somebody in Europe join a VC and start the channel server there, now everyone on the USW coast, has to traverse the entire continent and then an undersea cable to reach said server (and I can tell you, this is NOT good) even after the EU players have left, as the server is still hung running on that region. What you want instead is a distributed communications model where you have a copy of the channel server spin up in each region where the users are connecting, and using a backplane channel between region servers across the globe, you can link the individual region+channel servers for each active region together so locals only connect locally to region, and the regions do the heavy lifting between each other. (Think IRC.) This almost completely eliminates the lag perceived on these kinds of connections as one user isn't forced to traverse very-heavily-trafficked undersea cables just to connect to the server in the first place. To further shore up your backplane, simply expand it into a mesh VPN/MPLS style so that any one link cannot terminate any single end-to-end communication, only reroute it.
