Screenshare/Stream keeps crashing
I used to love discord, but why have recent updates bugged out the entire screenshare and streaming service?? It constantly crashes my friend and I's discords. Any help?

for me my screenshare works except for when i try sharing my whole screen, it just goes black and nothing ive tried fixed it so discord broke again lol

I've been having the same issue recently. My discord crashes whenever I screen share. It not only happens often when I start screen sharing, but it also occurs randomly while streaming.

Yeah, it happens to me too, usually when i stream a screen, but not when i stream a game. Its insanely annoying.

I too am having the same issue

Maybe an update with discord broke screenshare?

i been having this for months now, all of my friends do not have this problem but i do black screen flickers and then discord just crashes/closes and restarts, nothing i have tried had fixed the problem. so my guess that it's all on discords end,
P.S i also did a test without a person viewing the stream vs pm with no viewers watching it works fine but as soon as anyone joins the call or joins the chat to watch the stream it slowly starts to flicker the screen and crashes

I fixed my issue by running the update.exe in discord local app files, idk why but it works now

Discord’s recent update addressed the issue it seems. Thanks guys.

My Discord restarts randomly primarily during screenshare but it has happened when turning my webcam on after screensharing too. I'm all up to date too.

My issue is basically identical to the one Gizmo has, except the first time I tried to fix this it actually worked: I tried to use my dedicated nvidia graphics card instead of my integrated one and it actually let me do it. After that nothing. I even contacted customer service and they couldn't offer me any solutions. The recent update also didnt change a thing so rip

Having the same problem with my bf, but we solved it going back to Skype.
Actually its stream service is much better than Discord's.

Yes I am having a similar problem. I will be on a call with a friend, then ill go to screenshare something (i.e. Spotify, Games, Youtube, etc.). And it'll play for about 10 seconds then whatever im sharing will freeze on Discord, and will crash Discord. Sometimes I will still be able to talk to my friend, but most of the time, I have to exit out of discord from my taskbar then restart it.

Ok so something really strange happened today, just a few hours ago. The problem actually fixed itself, I don't know how or when, I went on a call with lots of people (one of them was screensharing) and I was able to use my webcam and such. I have no clue what happened but after I accidentally closed Discord the issue appeared again and it's still there as of now.

Still having issues with my discord stream / screensharing. The quality randomly jumps all over the place, even with 720p/15fps and a static image. Text is absolutely unreadable and thus this bug renders this feature useless for me. I'm going to cancel my nitro after 2 years... It's sad, because this feature worked so well, until maybe December 2019.
PS: Nope, reinstalling Discord / Nvidia Drivers / Windows didn't help at all. The issue still persists for me and there is no way to fix it.

I just updated today so I don't know if the problem is still happening. I have tried to uninstall Discord, I have tried to get different versions of discord nothing works. Discord need to get their shit together

Or at least acknowledge the problem on their Twitter or something. There's clearly a solution, we just have to find it and any kind of help could be pretty useful

I have an issue since December update when trying to send a picture to DM or screen sharing on DM or a server, discord crashes/restart itself like when you press Ctrl+R, it happens often even after following instructions from email support, hoping to get a fix.

I'm also having this issue. I could screenshare for like 5 minutes then it crashes/randomly restarts itself. I've been trying to contact Discord but none of the method they suggested helped me. It's been like this for a while and it's getting annoying.

When screen sharing: does the screen get really trashy and pixel filled, then out right freeze for anyone? Constantly swap US east, to US west, Japan, etc, just to make it better?
I have 100mbps download and 11mbps upload and the individual i'm with has roughly the same. What could be the issue?0 -
I also had a problem with the stream crashing/restarting especially when someone joins similar to Gizmo's situation.
Try downloading Discord Canary, that has worked for several people however if that doesn't work go to user settings then Voice and Video and under Advanced, disable OpenH264 Video Codec. That one worked for me.1 -
This is still an issue.
I've tried disabling OpenH264 but it doesn't fix it either.
It flickers black and the stream quality on the other end is constantly 144p to them despite me sharing source or 1080p.
The fact this plagues so many people yet no one can fix it is ridiculous.1 -
Yeah actually I solved it, I did the clean update thing in GeForce Experience and it solved itself

The clean update thing? Care to elaborate? I'll give anything a try at this point just to make it stop.

Yeah I misspoke there, I meant to say I went to the Drivers section, clicked on the three points on the left and reinstalled my drivers

I submitted a ticket regarding this issue to Discord in the early days of February. As stated, an update they pushed out seems to have resolved it. However, it seems to have returned as of early March for myself personally. I'll be looking to see what I can do to repair it for myself and post an update if I have one to offer in how to resolve the crashing and glitches.

Is anyone else using multiple monitors? I managed to fix this issue by making my laptop monitor the main screen while extended to another monitor. Leaving the extra monitor as the main one and then trying to use just one breaks the streaming.

I mean yes I have a dual monitor set up but switching the monitors around doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've had less of an issue with it crashing now and more of an issue of having to switch the server every 5 minutes because the quality is shite on the other end after a short period of time. But I know it's not an internet issue, I'm plugged into ethernet and I have no issues anywhere else other than in Discord.0
