    > letting users know they have been blocked is a TERRIBLE idea

If they get their friends to rally against me, they all get blocked too. If they manipulate one of my friends into sending me a message, I ask that friend to never do it again.

I really do not support the silent block / shadowblock / whatever idea.

Also, friend requests actually fail and pop up a dialog now when you're blocked, rather than silently not appearing in the pending tab. I don't see Discord implementing this idea anyway.. I hope they won't, it just seems annoying in my opinion.

Sigh Months later and I still get pestered nearly every time I block someone because they almost immediately realize that they have been blocked and complain about it, and this post is sitting here with two measly upvotes. I don't know why I even bother with this feedback system.

    >If they get their friends to rally against me, they all get blocked too
...And then they all make a fuss about it until you're told to unblock them or get kicked/banned from the server for upsetting so many people. Also good luck blocking the mods/admins when they inevitably get involved.
Look, it's great that you haven't found yourself in a server with high-school tier drama that is still necessary because of the information or functionality so you don't want to simply leave. Really, I'm glad you don't have to put up with that nonsense... but unfortunately I (and several other people I know) have found myself in such servers disturbingly often.

    >Also, friend requests actually fail and pop up a dialog now when you're blocked
Yes, there are other ways to figure out you've been blocked, but they are all less commonly used features and would mostly require the blocked person to actively go and check if they got blocked.
However, reacting to a post is so common that user will often figure it out completely by accident within hours of getting blocked (unless of course you're just lurking and don't ever post), and if you blocked them because of a specific post or conversation, it will be recent enough as to be obvious why you blocked them, further fueling their teenage drama.

Basically, a lot of people have to go through a lot of unnecessary trouble and effectively can't block users they want to block simply because of this poor implementation.

Most servers I've been in allow you to explain yourself, and as long as you actually do it right, you don't get banned just because some hooligan made a fuss!

    > Also good luck blocking the mods/admins when they inevitably get involved.

If you blocked the mods/admins for being curious then that explains you getting banned...

Which is why I completely hide blocked messages from Discord! That way if they start a fuss, I don't see their messages at all, and if they start throwing a fit and pestering the mods/admins when I haven't done anything at all, they're the ones who get banned...

Why? You can't block someone because you don't want them to know that they're blocked?? Well, you can mute people, which just silences notifications and nothing else... There are plugins out there that can hide muted users from Discord, making them completely disappear, as if they don't exist!

Does that sound like something Discord should implement themselves? Cause I absolutely support the whole 'better mute/ignore' thing, but asking Discord to heavily nerf blocks is just no thanks!

Couldn’t agree more. It’s the personal challenge part that is so annoying, especially on a discord server designed for *connecting with new people who both want to know each other*. The ones you don’t want to know anymore and refuse to accept that will create new accounts to harass. Shadow-blocking is so simple and would make it so easy for everyone, including admins and the blocked individual, to enjoy the server.

Websites struggle with harassment and censorship, and this would help so much in cutting down on both by leaving it between individuals rather than fighting with the admins to block a harasser or to remove a full-on (shadow)ban. Shadow-banning doesn’t in practice stop harassment because it’s too centralized and slow, and because they can still easily figure it out by asking a friend in DM or having a back-up account.

On that note, I hope friend requests to people who have blocked the requester move from a pop-up dialogue to a silent pending. I don’t see how this could be more annoying than knowing you are blocked or put on “read”. Plus, the blocker is not annoyed.

    I second this.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. Discord needs to stop ignoring this.

  • >Let blocked users add reactions to your posts, but make their reactions invisible to everybody else. You can't see them, other users can't see them, even admins can't see them - but the person you blocked CAN see them.

If a blocked user adds a common reaction like  or :thonk: and then a second person that ISN'T blocked adds that same emote, simply show the blocked user two of that react but everyone else only sees one.

Dont u think that, only YOU have blocked that person not everyone....so,why they should be invisible for everyone??
