February 2020 update : please make it optional

While there are some QOL changes that are appreciated (i.e. being able to see the exact time at which an individual message was sent), there are some problems as well. The hover menu for reactions is REALLY intrusive for what it is, using reactions is rare for most users anyway! The previous version was much more discreet. Highlighting messages, while less intrusive, is still distracting and doesn't really add anything.

The separation lines being gone is a bummer as well. They helped A LOT with visibility and readability.

While I understand that there are probably some people who will enjoy this update regardless, why not make it togglable ? Like adding another mode between normal mode and compact mode if you want to get rid of the lines ? Or simply an option to deactivate the reaction hover menu ?

I understand wanting to put out something new to keep the flame intact, but please let us have some kind of freedom over how we use Discord. The previous version was already very good and worked well, why try to fix something that wasn't broken ?

I hope Discord staff will listen.

i definitely think that on the appearance tab, there should be an option there called "Legacy style" which uses the old design. that way, if people prefer the new one then they don't have to see the new design while the people who prefer the old one can still keep it as it is

Yeah i completley agree

the new design should be completley optional! the way that the msgs highlight is just too distracting

I disagree with your statement about most don't use reactions, I'm in 100 servers, many big servers & pretty much all of them use reactions all the time, not just for announcements, also in actual chats & conversations.
But yes the new interface is terrible & I hope they fix it

Things I don't like are the new "Active Now" and the Reaction Bar that appears every time you hover over a message... Don't need both and wish there was a toggle...

Rest of the Update is fine by me...

Every update since I started using discord has been really well received up until now. The lack of line breaks and the reaction box are just garbage. How did these changes get approved?
