Server folder bullets nonsensical?

Some folders have the white bullet-points to the left and some don't.  It isn't just the ones with notifications either so I'm baffled as to what they represent. Anyone know? Maybe those are the four being displayed in the thumbnail? If so, I'd think that's a bit redundant given that it's obviously based on the ordering.

  Those bullets show that there's new message activity you haven't read in there. The notifications are pings from people using the @ feature at either you specifically or groups of members. It isn't nonsensical at all.
