Easily Accessible Global Discord Volume
I would like to briefly explain further the idea of a Global Discord Volume, along with practical uses and situations that would make it convenient for users.
First of all, Global Discord Volume can already by achieved by using operation system volume mixer to increase or decrease the overall volume of discord. By doing this you can keep the individual volume levels for every user, but it allows you to control the volume of everyone. These features allow you to both set the overall volume of discord and it's users, but importantly set the individual microphone level of every individual so you can kind of equalize the volume of every user. To more simply put global volume allows you to control the volume of the voice chat you are in, so loud or quite. While the individual volume levels allows us to create a volume equalization for every user, so no one is louder or quieter than others.
Now while should we put a feature in discord that one can already achieve by using the operation system? This is an important question to ask when deciding on if this feature should be or even considered to be developed. The first I would like to talk about the annoyance of using operating system volume mixers compared to discord integration of global volume, allowing discord to completely handle volume allow discord to control more aspects of the audio leaving the operation system out of the operation as much as possible, lastly the usefulness of this feature in general use.
Operating systems do not handle audio mixing very well at all, I often feel like these system in operating system where only designed to work not for user convince. Having to tab out of my current program in order to right click then scroll until I find the possible application I want to change, then just guessing at what volume I should set it is dumb. I don't think there is a way to easily control program audio without going through this process, unless you want to download a program to fix the operating systems failure.
Lastly is how often I find myself wanting an easier way to change the volume of everyone in discord without changing the individual volume levels. I use this feature often when playing games, some games I like having their volume louder while others quieter. However, with discord and going through the whole process of changing the volume in the volume mixer takes way to much time, so I usually end up changing the volume individual, however later I end up turning them back down. This makes for inconsistent volume mixing where I then have to readjust everyone's volume. Furthermore, I use this feature when I want to hear the people in chat, but I don't want to focus on them. For instance, when watching a video on YouTube, I want to be able to hear people when something interesting or exciting happens on their end, but I would also like to be able to clearly hear the video that I am watching. Overall the intention of including this is allow users to easily switch between different applications, where these applications have different desired volume levels.
To conclude, it is a horrible experience using operating systems method of controlling application volume so incorporating it would make it easier for users, and secondly it useful for when you use multiple applications with different desired volume levels, so you can easily adjust volume of users in chat depending on application. Overall, this has definitely been proposed before I am looking at the similar posts, but those have been short paragraphs not explaining why it is a good idea.
