I want you to add the read function.
I don't know if the other person confirmed the message, so I want the message to be marked when the other person sees the DM.

Great idea. I agree with this!

I'm against this. I actually appreciate the current level of ambiguity as to whether or not I've read something, it's something that I wish other platforms would allow their users to opt out of if they do push it on you (Facebook, for instance.) I really don't care if you want to know if I've read what you've said, and I really, really don't want you to be able to see precisely when I've looked at your messages. I'll read it when/if I'm ready to, and the latter part about timestamping is basically none of your business.
Moreover, a 'read' function can only lead to disagreements and arguments as far as I'm concerned. It either won't bother people because they really couldn't care less about it, or it'll provide a means for certain miscreants to pester others on the subject of their timeliness.
Discord is succeeding because it isn't just a copy-cat of other social media platforms. I don't want to see them bloat their product with the worst concepts of other platforms.
OhMaiGahhhhsh you left me on read!
Also, this is the same suggestion as two below you.
