IP address banning is flawed
Banning users and preventing them creating alt accounts through the use of permanent IP bans is a flawed approach to bans.
The reason being that in some countries a good chunk of the IP addresses are DHCP dynamic. Thus whatever IP you ban was only in use by that user temporarily. Then some other poor sod inherits the banned IP address.
In Australia at least, all of our mobile connections are dynamic and many of our residential fixed line connections are as well. The only ones that are generally static across the board are business connections.
Additionally IP bans ignores the existance of VPN's, internet cafes, communal shared connections, or other situations where addresses are shared by multiple people. Thus the IP ban can lead to a large amount of collateral damage.
Further, in past situations where we had a user affected by an IP ban discord supports only suggestion was to unban every single person in my ban list. This is completely unacceptable... I recognise the need to protect their IP privacy but telling a server owner to unban literally everyone is beyond rediculous.
What could instead occur is the affected user can volunteer their IP to the server admin and the admin could then use a new form to whitelist that IP on the server for that specific user. Or if you really want to protect their privacy the admin could plugin the affected users user ID and discord itself can handle the whitelisting action.
