Hey welcome to the comments section. Don't go here for pro-NFT posts, just downvote and leave. Perhaps leave some comments on anti-NFT posts to get those comment numbers up too?

There is a irony in talking about NFTs and crypto etc. harming the world when many, many things will have the same impact, swapping out phones every year or two, new computers or assorted electronics, even the battery in an electric car will be worn out and may be thrown out if it cannot be used.
I don't care for these NFTs much myself, pay a bunch of money to own what looks like silly artwork, I think, but on the other hand, companies aren't really obligated to listen to consumers when a driving factor is profit, say, 90 times out of 100.

I have only ever paid for one year of Nitro and never done so ever since, because I don't see a use it doing so (and think it is partially bad value, to me it is not worth 100/50$ a month) this assumed move won't make me more or less likely to consider Nitro at all, to be honest.

You are perfectly within your reason to cancel your own subscription for whatever reason that may be, we aren't going to see eye to eye on things here, but I would've just left and moved to another platform assuming the sudden influx of deleted/disabled accounts and cancelled subscriptions.

Expectations can lead to disappointment, sometimes they will lead to disappointment.

I don't really condone what Discord may or may not do (they must keep their head above water after all considering it being a proprietary, closed source chat app only managed by Discord themselves, maintaining servers, salaries for people working there etc.), I haven't heard too much about it, but sometimes that's a sacrifice to be made for convenience, that is how it is with big tech.

I'll address some of the points in K.F.'s comment.

To the point of the environment: There are absolutely more wasteful things in this world than just cryptocurrency blockchains, and there are absolutely things about my lifestyle that are wasteful. But that doesn't mean that I can't call on a company to do better in one particular way or change the way I interact with a company. The other types of electronic waste you mention are absolutely harmful as well, but that's not what the discussion specifically regarding Discord is about.

To the point of leaving for another platform: This is something one of my communities spoke about, and we realized that we didn't know of any good alternatives yet. Perhaps something will crop up that would allow for communities to migrate to another platform if they so choose, but as it stands now there's nothing I know that's like Discord. Too much of the way I interact online is within the structure of Discord to just up and leave immediately. And even if the crypto partnership did go through I'd still stay on as a freeloader; I imagine many of the members of the communities I'm in would do the same. Fewer paying members could very well send a message.

Good on you, Lonelyvoxel. Let's hope enough people do this to scare the company off NFT. Boost!
