No NFTs Please
I don't know why this needs to be said, but implementing blockchain, crypto, and NFTs into a glorified chat app is ludicrous. It's terrible for the environment, it's a pyramid scheme, it's money laundering, it's speculation based entirely on absurd artificial scarcity that's ultimately meaningless. And even if that wasn't all true, I fail to see how this benefits any users - people don't need another place to buy/sell/trade NFTs, they already have places to do so. The only reason I can think that you'd do this is that by facilitating sales, you expect to get a cut of each transaction. And it's this sort of short-sighted, profit-above-all thinking that both creates the scam of NFT speculation and the environmental concerns. The bubble will burst. This isn't some Luddite, technophobic screed - new tech can be great! But crypto ain't it. Now, I assume some crypto bros will come in here and throw some of their BS buzzwords at me. They'll say I'm jealous because I'm "not gonna make it" and that I'm "coping" with being less business savvy than them. But on the contrary, why would I be jealous of people wasting thousands on a lame avatar that they could get with much better art, style, and morality from literally any furry artist for like, $30-50 or so. And the only coping I'm doing is with the fact that my planet is dying for the sake of rich people getting richer, and these rubes are thinking that they can get rich quick off of this. An NFT isn't an image - it's a digital certificate saying you own an image, and it has no inherent value unless people say it does. You say standard currency is the same? Sure, all money is fake, but I'll take the currency with more legitimate use and less carbon footprint that crypto bros will all have to exchange it to anyway. Long story short, NFTs are bad and you should feel bad for considering supporting them.
