Do not integrate cryptocurrency

Crypto is a dangerous, risky, and pointless industry that prides itself on imaginary value and money laundering. In addition to the environmental consequences as cryptocurrency minting consumes more electricity than entire countries, the industry is filled with shady actors.

Discord is already a popular choice for scammers, and inviting in an industry known for scams is very dangerous business. We have seen NFTs become hacked and stolen through discord, tokens like Squid coin or NFT sellers suddenly disappearing with millions in tow, and even people minting trojan viruses and distributing NFTs that stole entire bank accounts.

The industry is pioneered by money-launderers. One famous NFT "sold" for half a billion dollars, but the money was immediately transferred back to the original account. This sort of practice has defined the NFT market as a circle of rich people sending illegitimate money back and forth, to the point congress had to take action. NFT sellers with no connections have even lamented how there's no interested buyers. 

It is incredibly easy to mint any image with the right equipment, meaning an alarming number of NFTs are made with stolen art and IPs. There have even been twitter accounts created linked to bots that can mint any image from a tweet. The industry no longer supports artists, and many have felt pressured into minting their own work before someone else does. However, this has not been enough to stop theft of their work. Nintendo has already issued a cease and desist regarding a cryptocurrency video game using stolen trademarks.

An NFT has no real purpose other than use as a stock item, and the only appeal other than its use as a laundering tool is exclusivity. After implementation of the bill applying taxation and other measures to deter laundering, exclusivity will be the ONLY selling point in the market. As more and more NFTs are minted, they will no longer be elusive stock owned by a few people. This means demand will crater, and investors are projected to reap huge losses.

By linking NFTs and cryptocurrency as a whole to your platform, you are creating a space in which scammers thrive, creators suffer, and countless illegal transactions take place. This is all in addition to doing irreparable damage to the environment and rapid acceleration of global warming. Users are already organizing a movement to boycott discord. While I did not have a Nitro subscription, I will not so much as consider buying one, and I will be campaigning for others to cancel their subscriptions. Others are already looking for an alternative platform to end their use of Discord entirely. Your own employees have been facing the backlash for your decision, regardless of whether or not they support cryptocurrency or had anything to do with the upcoming integration. Until Discord renounces cryptocurrency, we will not support your platform.
