So, sometime in the evening of 28 November, an individual by the name of Myst#0021, has committed an act of slander against me in a voice chat conversation to a large number of individuals, on the VancouFur Staff Discord server; a server I'm no longer a part of as I have resigned from convention staff in 2019. Apparently she went on to say that she is currently dissatisfied with the way how I have been criticising VancouFur, our local convention, as a whole, because of how past staff have mishandled a case incident that had left me disenfranchised. And her rant last night further compounds the problem. I had not been criticising the convention the past few months.
Myst#0021 has not once attempted to reach out to me and engage in a meaningful conversation with me, to get a better understanding of why I've been criticising the convention the way I had been. She simply went straight into slandering me outright to her staff, I guess to blow off steam, and because of this, I now feel even more unwelcome on Discord and with VancouFur in general. I honestly feel this is a direct violation of Discord's Terms of Service, specifically under Rules of Conduct and Usage, saying this Service cannot be used "to defame, libel, ridicule, mock, stalk, threaten, harass, intimidate, or abuse anyone." Unfortunately, because this incident occurred in both voice chat and on a server I'm not on, I'm unable to submit message links of any kind, so this forum is my only choice.
Myst, if you're reading this, I have some advice for you:
As Con Chair, it is your responsibility to find those who have been criticising the convention you're the Chair of, and to sit down and have a meaningful conversation with them, to get a better understanding of what they are talking about. By choosing to throw me under the bus to your staff instead of talking to me, you have effectively and critically failed to uphold that responsibility.
Under no circumstances should you ever, especially in a professional capacity, talk smack behind someone's back to your staff. It's incredibly disrespectful, unprofessional, cowardly, and further discourages me (and possibly others) to return to con staffing. Given the nature of this incident, I highly doubt I ever will at this point.
