Discord's age-restricted server designation helps ensure that communities centered around adult content remain accessible only to users aged 18+, as indicated in our Community Guidelines. Servers can either be self-designated as 18+ by their owners or classified as age-restricted by Discord when they focus primarily on mature themes or content.

Check out our support article here to learn more about how to access age-restricted servers.
What is classified as an age-restricted server?
Servers must be classified as age-restricted if the community is organized around age-restricted themes or if the majority of the server’s content is focused on 18+ content.
Discord will mark servers meeting these criteria as age-restricted if they are not appropriately designated. We will notify server owners letting them know if their server has been impacted through a system message.
What does this mean for age-restricted server members?
Users between the ages of 13 and 17 will not be able to join or view the content in age-restricted servers.
Important: Users in regions with regional restrictions may have to complete age assurance in order to view or enter servers marked as age-restricted by their server owner. Please refer to the article below that corresponds to your region for further details.
Users aged 18+ that are attempting to join or access new age-restricted servers on iOS will be required to opt-in to viewing age-restricted content on desktop before being allowed into these spaces.
Additionally, a subset of age-restricted servers that are specifically focused on explicit pornographic content will be blocked entirely on iOS. iOS users aged 18+ will only be able to join and access these dedicated pornography servers on the desktop and web versions of Discord.
What about age-restricted Channels?
All Discord server owners must still apply age-restricted gates to channels with mature content.
Having age-restricted channels in a server does not, however, automatically mean that an entire server should be designated age-restricted. An age-restricted designation is only necessary if the majority of the server’s content is focused on 18+ content.

Appealing an Age-restricted Server Designation
Owners of communities designated age-restricted by Discord will have to submit an appeal if they wish to have the age-restricted server-level designation removed.
Server owners can write in to Trust & Safety’s support queue here:
- Select NSFW Server Owner Appeals
- Enter the required details of the server
Server owners should provide their server’s ID as well as an explanation why their community should be considered safe-for-work (SFW). We cannot accept server-level appeals from anyone besides the server owner. Communities determined to be SFW will have the age-restricted designation removed — at which time users between the ages of 13 and 17 will be allowed to rejoin.
Updating User’s Age Information
Note for users in regions where age assurance is required: You will have to age assure into the adult age group in order to join age-restricted servers.
If you are over the age of 18 and have been locked out of an age-restricted channel, or are unable to use age-restricted commands in DMs, you can appeal by following the instructions in this Help Center article.
