How to Verify Your Age to Unlock Your Account

Discord is experimenting with new methods that you can choose from to verify your age, to unlock your account.

Unlock Your Account with Photo ID

1. Take a photo of yourself that includes yourself holding the following items:

A photo ID showing your date of birth
A piece of paper with your full Discord Username (ex: Wumpus)

2. Submit your photo to our Trust & Safety team at: https://dis.gd/request. Select Appeals & Age Update Requests under the What can we help you with? option. Fill out the form completely before submitting your request to help our Trust & Safety team assist you more effectively.

Example of Submitting a Request for Age Verification

NOTE: All of the required information needs to be visible and readable in ONE photo.
You must send the photo with the email address associated with your Discord account.
The information you provide will only be used to verify your age and will not be used for any other purpose.

Unlock Your Account with Automatic Age Check

NOTE: The Automatic Age Check is only available in select regions. If unavailable in your area, please use the Photo ID verification method described above. Discord and its vendor do not store any facial scans - they are only used to estimate age and are immediately deleted after verification.

1. Log in to your locked account.
2. Go to your Active Violations.
3. Locate and open the Minimum Age Requirements violation card.

4. Press the Let us know button to start the appeal process.

5. Follow the prompts to take a selfie using your device’s camera to verify your age.

a. We partner with k-ID for the age verification processing. Neither Discord nor its vendor keeps the facial scans submitted during the age verification process.
b. The age check results typically process within seconds.

6. If the k-ID age verification is successful, you’ll see Age Check Complete at the top of your Active Violations screen.

a. You can now log back into your account.
b. Your full access will be restored.

Q: Does Discord or k-ID keep my selfie data?

A: Discord only logs the k-ID age verification results used to unlock your account—it doesn’t save your selfie image. For questions about k-ID’s processes, please contact k-ID.

Q: What if the k-ID age verification fails?

A: After the verification attempt, you’ll see Age Check Complete at the top of your Active Violations screen. You can try k-ID certification again but we may limit how many times you can use this method for appeal, or proceed with the photo ID verification method instead.

Q: When unlocking my account with Photo ID, do I need to take multiple photos for verification?

A: No, all required information (your photo ID and username paper) must be visible and readable in a single photo.

Q: Which email should I use to submit my verification?

A: You must submit your verification photo using the email address that's associated with your Discord account.

Q: How will Discord use my verification information?

A: The information you provide will be used solely for age verification purposes and will not be used for anything else.
