Discord on macOS stuck on RTC Connecting and crashing
When I try to join a server or voice call my discord get stuck on RTC Connecting at which point it crashes, restarts on its own, and gets stuck in this loop endlessly. It works fine on my browser (chrome), and on my phone. I've tried deleting it and reinstalling the mac application several times including deleting any folders or other data attached and restarting my computer as well even after the update from today it's still buggy/broken.

Dude I'm having the SAME issue too, but on a Mac, never had this issue before. It started yesterday and still acting up today. Just email discord's tech support along with the video of what I'm describing. I'm pretty sure u did the same thing too, look it up of how to fix, tried all of them, but still looping. Heck idk if its Discord notice if there's a server connection issue for some of us, based on https://downdetector.com/status/discord/ until this issue is solved (somehow) this mind as well go back using pre-discord era...skype.

I have the exact same problem, reinstalled, cleared cache & rebooted multiple times, still keeps looping whenever I start a call (serveur or private)
I'm running macOS 10.13.6, with the latest updates installed, and have granted Discord all the required permissions. Don't know what to do, I need it to work.

I found a temporary workaround that worked for me....I logged into my discord from a separate device, started a voice chat, and quit the discord app on my Mac. Stayed in the voice chat on the other device, and logged back in on the Mac. Went to voice settings and set it to "press to talk"- it stopped freaking out for the time being. I still want to not have to use this in the future, but for now it works.

same problem here, currently have to use the phone app, but discord on iMac is pretty much rendered useless for me at the moment.

Same Problem here on two different Macs.
The Discord App crashes on the "RTC Connecting" Part, it try's to log in again and crashes again. And that in an endless loop

Does not work for me either
I don't want to advertise my twitter-account, but im currently having a conversation with @discordSo they told me to reinstall and clean up the app, but when you go to discord app.com in your browser (safari) and go into a voice channel while looking at the debug console: there's some issues with the RTC API.
if you want to follow the conversation take a look at my twitter @gandalf1783 (sorry if this is against the rules, but I just want to mention it since discord is known of the bug/issue there. Dunno how important it is for them currently :/ )

Btw:
If you need to use discord, you can use Google Chrome temporarily to share your screen and talk. Works not as great as the app itself (normally), but its the best way yet.0 -
Jeeeez this topic is going crazy lol Like Leafling mentioned, I switched to "push to talk" and surprisingly the RTC actually connected. Heck while calling, I switch it back to "voice activity" and BOOM, back to RTC connecting, glitches, and looping again. like gandalf1783 said, theres something wrong with the RTC API or something. I also working with discord tech support and they gave me "Discord PTB" to download and try to see if that could work, short answer is no, it still doing the same issue. Another thing is that I also send them this topic link so that they can see how many are having this issue.

Push to Talk works for me too.
I just hope that the PTB Edition at least got the fix soon.

Got another response email from discord tech support and of course they suggested using the "push and talk" setting (which I already did), supported browser like google/chrome for a example, or using your mobile app (which you guys already know) until this issue gets fixed. Anyway, there is a bug and the engineering team are looking into this, hopefully and better be.

I hope they fix that soon.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem...PTT apparently works, but as soon as I turn that off it goes into "RTC Connecting" and gets stuck in a crash loop. My discord app has been like this for....weeks? (And apparently now the web app in Chrome isn't working either so welp).
I couldn't find that twitter thread otherwise I would have replied to it. Hopefully this is something we can get Discord to fix soon.0 -
15 days layer...still acting up.

I've been using PTT and taping the button down, I would really prefer if this didn't have to be a permanent solution.

Credit to u/fragdemuerte for figuring this out
My current fix for joining voice channels are:
-
Dump Application Support files
-
Restart Discord
-
Go to User Settings -> Voice and Video ->Turn off Voice Activity / Turn on PTT
-
On V&V, turn off all options.
-
Turn on Voice Activity from PTT, Test Mic. Turn off Input Sensitivity, QoS, Advanced Voice Activity, and Diagnostics.
-
Can now join Voice Channel

Gave it a try (since its been a while) I deleted everything that is discord then reinstalled it clean. Not surprised, but its still acting up/doing that looping bug glitch. PTT still works tho (feels like I'm in a recording booth when need to talk) Its been like a month already, is the engineering team even "looking into"?

Yep. Disabling all the other settings in the V&V settings menu stopped the crashing for me.
Edit: However, deleting the Discord folder from Lib/AppSupport needs to be done again after quiting the app.

Hi all!
For me a full uninstall seems to have gotten rid of the issue for good.
For help with that see here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022082931--macOS-Install-and-Updating-Errors
Haven't had to delete files from AppSupport after that. Hope you get yours working again maxcar, deleting those files over and over again must be a hassle. This probably won't help but I'd make sure to check both of the folders.
- ~/Library/Application Support/Discord
- /Library/Application Support/Discord

Guys idk this might work for u, but go Settings-> Voice and Video -> Advanced Voice Activity - Switch Off. (Note that u need to be on Voice Activity to switch it off). If it doesn't work, try to see if theres other possible fixes in this link. Hope this does help.

It works for me !
