Family Center is an optional tool created to help keep up to three parents or guardians informed about how you use Discord while still maintaining your privacy. As you make connections and join servers, the information provided within the Activity Summary will help you and your connected family members stay on the same page. However, to respect your privacy, the summary will not share the messages you send with connected family members.

How to Connect to a Parent or Guardian
To connect with a trusted adult family member, head to User Settings located in the bottom left of the desktop/browser app and then tap on Family Center.
While here, tap on My Family and then press on Connect with Guardian.
Connect with Guardian button
While here, you’ll have a QR code that your parent or guardian can scan from their smartphone. After the QR code is scanned, you will receive a connection request from your parent/guardian. If you accept that connection request, you and your parent/guardian will be connected in Family Center and you will see your connected parent or guardian in the Connected Parents section under My Family.

After completing setup, your parent or guardian will only be able to see activity that has occurred after being connected to you in Family Center. They will not have access to any activity that occurred before the connection was activated.

Your Account Settings
If you’re connected to Family Center, certain settings around things like sensitive content, DMs, and privacy are managed by your guardian. These settings are especially important because they shape what you might see on Discord or how people can reach you. That’s why we encourage you to talk about them with your guardian and make sure they match the experience you want:
- Sensitive content filters: Adjust if the content flagged by our sensitive media filters are blurred, blocked, or shown by default to your teen. Note: For UK, Australian and Brazilian teens, your guardian can only choose between blur and block due to regional restrictions.
Sensitive content filters
- Friend Requests: Adjust who can send your teen a friend request (Everyone, friends of friends, Server members)
Friend requests settings
- Server Direct Messages: Adjust if server members can send your teen Direct Messages
- Message Requests: Adjust if your teen has message requests turned on. Message requests are on by default for teen users. When it’s on, messages from users who aren’t friends with your teen are filtered into a separate “Message Requests” folder. This helps keep unwanted messages out of your teen’s main direct message inbox.
