Family Center is an optional tool created to help keep up to three parents or guardians informed about how you use Discord while still maintaining your privacy. As you make connections and join servers, the information provided within the Activity Summary will help you and your connected family members stay on the same page. However, to respect your privacy, the summary will not allow connected family members to view any of your messages between you and others.
You can access Family Center by selecting this link or by heading into your User Settings within the Discord App.
What this article covers:
How to Connect to a Parent or Guardian
To connect with a trusted adult family member, head to User Settings located in the bottom left of the desktop/browser app and then tap on Family Center. While here, tap on My Family and then press on Connect with Parent.
Your parent/guardian will need to download the Discord mobile app and create an account to connect to you in Family Center. If you would like to see how Family Center works for parents/guardians or need any guidance, you can check out this article here.
While here you’ll have a QR code that your parent or guardian can scan from their smartphone. After the QR code is scanned, you will receive a connection request from your parent/guardian. If you accept that connection request, you and your parent/guardian will be connected in Family Center and you will see your connected parent or guardian in the Connected Parents section under My Family.
After completing setup, your parent or guardian will only be able to see activity that has occurred after being connected to you in Family Center. They will not have access to any activity that occurred before the connection was activated.
How is Family Center used?
Once you are connected to your parent or guardian in Family Center, they will have access to information around your use of Discord by heading to Family Center > Activity. Your connected parent or guardian will be able to see the following information from the last 7 days:
- Your recently added friends, including their display names and avatars
- Which users you have messaged or called in direct or group messages, including their display names, avatars, and the times of the last messages or calls
- Servers you have joined or participated in, including server names, icons, and member counts
Family Center > Activity can be accessed at any time. Additionally, connected parents or guardians will receive a weekly update via email containing a high level summary of this view.
Family Center does not show connected parents/guardians what you are sending in a message (server, direct message, or group direct message).
