Custom Sticker Requirements
Custom stickers are available through Boosting your server. Once boosted, server admins and owners can upload custom stickers under Server Settings > Stickers.
For the best looking stickers, you'll need to follow these requirements:
- Animated File types: APNG, and Lottie.
- Static File type: PNG
- Max File size: 500 KB
- Dimensions: 320px x 320px (exact)
- Matching Unicode Emoji for Sticker Suggestions
- [Optional] Description text so people who use screen readers can understand what a sticker looks like.
Things to Keep in Mind
In addition to the requirements listed above, we recommend considering the following items when creating your custom sticker creations.
Due to their uniqueness, stickers are often created with transparent backgrounds. This can be achieved through a few different methods depending on what you’re using to create stickers:
Transparent background (left), Solid background (right)
- Make sure your background layer is transparent when saving the image.
- Cutting the background out with a photo editing tool
Sizing your custom stickers
When creating stickers, make sure that your sticker takes up as much canvas space as possible for the best results.
Stickers in the desktop chat will render at 160x160 dp, which is why we recommend uploading stickers as 320x320 px exactly. This scaling helps keep your stickers looking crisp on most displays.
Note: Keep in mind that depending on what device you're using, and depending on where stickers are displayed (in the sticker drawer, in chat, etc), the sticker may display at different sizes.
We use rLottie’s rendering library in the app to render Lottie stickers. However, there are many Lottie libraries out there, so you can use whichever you prefer! Keep in mind that no matter which library you use, you’ll need an authoring tool in order to create Lottie stickers.
Our library doesn’t currently support raster graphics inside Lottie files. If you want to use a raster graphic, then save it as a PNG or APNG instead!
- Your Lottie or APNG stickers will not render if you only upload the files through the chat bar > upload file section!
- You’ll need to preview the stickers instead in the Server Settings > Stickers > Upload window.
Q: Is there a frame rate limit for my stickers?
A: We only allow up to 60 FPS!
Q: What are Lottie files?
A: A Lottie is a JSON-based animation file. It helps keep image file sizes small without needing to compress the file - which normally results in image quality issues (ie. pixelation in this case). This means higher resolution images = better quality stickers!
Q: What’s the difference between APNG and a PNG file?
A: PNG files are a static, image file format that compresses images in a specific way to prevent quality loss. An APNG file is the animated version of this file format!
Q: Why can’t we use other file types as custom stickers?
A: We wanted to make sure your sticker creations looked just as beautiful in the app as when you’re creating them, so we chose file types that will help support that!
Q: What size will my stickers display in chat?
A: Stickers in the desktop chat will render at 160x160 dp, which is why we recommend uploading stickers as 320x320 px exactly!
Q: What kind of content can I use for my stickers?
Q: How can I report someone who’s stolen my original sticker content?
A: Please note that you must be the original owner of the content to file a report.
To report stolen sticker content, you can file a DMCA through our website at: https://dis.gd/contact. Select “File a DMCA Takedown Request” from the dropdown menu and follow the instructions there.
