Control over red dot notifications needs a rework
I have joined lots of servers, and they all have red dot notifications, and I can't work out how to disable them! I use Discord in Firefox. Two of the most obvious problems:
1. For one of the channels which keeps using @everyone, I have muted the channel and set the channel's notifications to None. But I'm still getting the red dot appearing in the server's sidebar icon... O_o
2. @everyone and @my_name should be treated separately. Surely lots of users want to know when they are specifically mentioned, but not when the channel is spammed by @everyone. I don't know why these two different situations are treated as the same.
Currently, notifications in Discord are completely meaningless to me. I just have to mute the Discord tab, disable app notifications on mobile, and ignore the 400 red dots in the UI. So I never actually know if someone has tagged me or if a channel I care about has announced something.
Please do some research into what users actually want from notifications, and build appropriate control features around it.
Related, but not quite the same request, this user wants to prioritise notifications they care about from notifications they don't care about: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360030933231-System-Tray-notification-badge-differentiate-mention-vs-unread-messages-
