Nested categories, making organisation a general purpose tool
TL;DR We archive channels into a massive hidden category, which accumulates to the point of being hard to manage, category nesting provides a way to sub-divide these groups of text channels, and helps solve other problems unique to large servers.
Categories are great for organizing in the same way tab groups are for organizing your browser, however both suffer from their inability to contain themselves in a tree-like structure. While it's nice that new community features have archiving built-in, forums and threads fall short as tools for servers that are used by organisations to conduct large events for various reasons.
Permissions, channels, and categories are all needed to keep information readily accessible. And permissions are needed for security, to keep people organised and to cut down on irrelevant information.
At the end of an event when it comes time to clean up channels for the next event, the channels go into this massive archive category, which would be so much easier to segment up if categories could contain other categories. We already use separate servers for different levels of an organisation, but channels non the less accumulate with no way to sub-divide them.
