Username system doesn't need to be touched
If it's not broken, don't try and "fix" it. The fact the blog post directly linked to a reddit post with less than 250 answers (many are also people going back to the post after the announcement) where some people didn't know the "official" term for the discriminator is beyond baffling. That's nowhere near a big enough sample size to claim "40% of users don't know what's it's called". Who gives a crap if some don't know the term, they at least know what it's purpose is.
One thing people have loved about discord was being able to name yourself whatever you wanted to without having to worry about the name being taken. People had no need to make their name a messy combination of letters/numbers/symbols to get the name they wanted, if people still did that, it was because they wanted it to look that way.
You didn't do any community consulting like claim and it's the literal exact opposite of what anyone using discord wants, as evident by the absolute beating you are receiving accross sites and servers. You won't even tweet about the change cause you know it'll also get slammed.
Many others have pointed out the myriad of issues this change will lead to, so there's no need to reiterate the list. Just suck it up, admit the change is stupid, and keep the system as is. You actually have the community feedback you say you had about the change, and it's pretty clear where the community stands on the topic.
