PLEASE do NOT go through with the username changes!

This is an absolutely ridiculous, horrible idea that clearly everybody hates. I can't imagine anyone asked for it in the first place, and based off of the user response this seems to be self-evident, so I'm baffled as to why this change is even being considered at all. This will make it so much easier to get impersonated, and scams and phishing are already big enough problems in Discord servers. Not to mention the most basic reasons to keep the current system, which is that A) it allows more usernames to be in circulation and B) people often enjoy changing up their name sometimes, and if this is put into place, nobody will be able to do it anymore for fear of permanently losing their username. The name + number system that Discord has implemented is honestly the best way I've EVER seen usernames work on any website or service I've ever used. I am not exaggerating. It's truly not only not broken, but - in my opinion - actively better than the standard. I wish every website would adopt something similar. It's absolutely absurd to me that the given reason for this change is to be MORE LIKE other websites when  the way they do it is worse. For christ's sake, don't change a perfectly functional aspect of your service just for the sake of "being like everyone else."

 

I also don't believe for a second that "over 40% of users don't know their discriminator or even know what it is." Their "source" for this is a single reddit thread. Where did they get this supposed statistic? 

The idea that it's difficult to remember or share to people is also patently ridiculous. There's like 5 different incredibly easy ways you can share your account with people you wanna add as friends. They are creating made-up people with made-up problems as an excuse to make a horrible change to their platform. 

 

Don't do it.
