Why the new username system is terrible
Discord's new system really does suck. Most people I've spoken to agree.
A 4-digit discriminator is not that difficult to remember. I've managed to remember mine after a week or two of regularly using Discord. Some can do it even faster.
This new system opens up a whole lot of new issues:
- Username sniping and selling.
- Usernames will become even worse than the current system of username#0000, because all the nice usernames will be taken and most users will be forced to choose a name followed by a string of numbers, i.e. @waffle98293. It was much better to choose a clean username and just have a unique discriminator, that again, can be easily remembered, unless you literally have dementia.
- A new way to impersonate online personalities by sniping a name they might want to use.
- Everyone complaining about not getting the username they wanted.
- One less Nitro perk, hence devaluing Nitro. I'm already seeing some people cancel their Nitro subscriptions because of this sudden change.
TL;DR: The current username and discriminator system is just fine, nobody ever complained about it. The current update it pointless and uncalled for, and will most likely worsen the overall experience on Discord.

Reading the community announcement, they clearly think we're all stupid! Stupid idea and I hope they feel the impact from it. I cancelled my nitro right away.

+1. My memory SUCKS and I still remember my discriminator better than most of my usernames when I don't get the one I want.
