The "new" unique username system is not a great idea
The current system allows you to get pretty much any username you want at cost of having to memorize 4 digits.
The fallback to old times unique username systems will obviously lose this benefit and only trade this cost to a different one - you will either have to add a "discriminator" of your own if you are not first one to pick or have to pick entirely new username - both of which you will also have to memorize.
And in addition to that you will add friction at account creation and friction between users that want the same name.
Alternatively the memorization issue could have been addressed in another way - allowing everyone set the discriminator for free to something they can easily remember which allows everyone to keep the names they want. And if one's username is so common they are unable to get discriminator they want the new system is not going to help them either for the same reason.
And that's not to mention the can of worms you are opening that other similar posts have described.

This change is completely to the detriment of the user. Cancelled my nitro and commenting on every one of these posts I see to increase visibility. I had to make an account just to post here, and it was just frustrating enough to give me the vinegar I need to keep commenting.
