Removing discriminators is a mistake
People have already made more articulate posts but there's power in numbers and hopefully if there's enough posts, they won't make this change.
Anyways, this is the blurb I sent in via support tickets (with a few edits for clarity):
Removing the discriminators is a huge mistake. I may have had my account since 2016, so I've had a long time to remember the 4 digits, but it Did Not take that long to remember them when I first made my account. It's 4 numbers. It is not that hard to remember.
The discriminators have made it incredibly easy for me to share my username, I have never had an issues having someone adding me or me adding them. I use a few variations of my username and most of them came about due to the name already being taken. But on disord and other places (like Mojang/microsoft with gamertags, or even my university email) using unique numbers, I've been able to have the specific username I want without having to add unnecessary and unwanted underscores, periods, or numbers.
If I can't claim my username as is, I'm going to have to figure out how to add in those extra characters, then remember the new change, which I will argue will be a lot harder to remember, it's rare for people to use extra characters nowadays, especially since systems like the discriminators exist. And this change will be harder to share because the other person may put in the extra characters wrong or forget them all together, making it hard to add me.
Removing non-unique usernames, removing the discriminators, will overcomplicate everything. The issues people have with the four numbers is not as wide of an experience as you're saying; I have never heard of Anyone complain about the username and friends system.
The discriminators are a good system, the announcement of this change has already upset a lot of people in multiple servers I'm in. It's also going to change how some bots work, which is causing stress for servers.
Discord has been going downhill in recent months, with different unwelcome and failed stints, this change will be another point of contention for users and just another reason for users to want to switch to a different communication platform.

I wanted to stay semi professional, but as people have said already: "not remembering the discriminators" is a skill issue. If you're sharing your discord tag a bunch but can't remember the 4 numbers, then you have another issue to figure out. I don't share my discord tag a whole bunch, but I still remember my tag just in case. And my memory is pretty bad.
I've also seen the good points of Impersonation is going to get worse, account selling will happen, fighting and upset over who gets to have certain names (celebrities vs normal people), etc etc.
None of the actually-negative, possibly harmful, effects were addressed in the announcement post. What was mentioned are non-issues, just a loud minority of complaints against the current system.
Like I mentioned in my rambling to the support feature, I've had discord since 2016. I remember being So excited about not having to worry about a making a username that wasn't already taken, that I could just put anything in. Not many games or sites had that feature then.
