A lesser brought up issue with the removal of account discriminators.
While many people, including myself, are against the removal of Discord's Numerical Discriminatior system for a variety of reasons, an issue that's not been brought up as frequently is the impact this change has on users in countries that do not use the Latin Alphabet for their language, say Japan for example.
As stated in the blog post about this upcoming change, "Meanwhile, people from regions where non-alphanumeric characters are common in names, such as Asia, would have difficulty fully representing themselves".
Under the new system, as described in the same blog post, only lowercase characters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and two special characters (. and _) will be usable in usernames.
This is a major issue since non-latin characters are considered "special symbols" on the site, so while it may have been difficult before the change, after the change it will be fully impossible for those usernames to even exist.
Many countries affected by this have already had access to Discord for years now, and this change will make the site unusable.
Yes, "special characters" will still be allowed in Display Names, but image this from the opposite direction.
If you could use A-Z, 0-9, etc. in your display name, but your username had to be written in Kanji for the site to accept it.
This change, if rolled out, would prevent users who's native language is Japanese, Chinese (both China or Taiwan versions), Korean, Hindi, Greek, Vietnamese, Thai, Bulgarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Czech and all languages with Right-to-Left Script from being able to have a Username that's in their native script.
Most of those languages already have Discord support built into the app, yet they are apparently expected to switch to an entirely separate language to actually identify themselves on the platform.
Regardless of your views on whether this change is better for "individuality" or something, this comes off as feeling rather Discriminatory and short-sighted.
Especially notable in that some users affected by this change may be relying on Discord to contact family members due to current world events affecting users writing in Cyrillic.
