Another Vote to Not Remove Discriminators

I know I'm just saying the same thing as everyone else, but I think that changing the username system on discord is a terrible idea. The entire reason that I joined discord in the first place was because of the competitive splatoon community - an online multiplayer game with no voice chat. A game where a not insignificant number of users go by their discord tag, because that's the only way to reach out to other people that you've played with outside the game!

The current tag system is recognizable, and that's a good thing! If I hand someone who's familiar with the platform my discord tag, they immediately know what it is and where to find me. If I hand them my username for any other social media with no context, that's indecipherable. The uniqueness of discord tags as a system is what makes them work, because even if nobody knows the specific terminology of discriminator, everyone knows what a discord tag looks like.

I joined discord in early 2016, and I've had exactly one issue where I didn't realize that the names were case-sensitive. This, along with a lot of the other "issues" mentioned in the blog post, could be easily fixed by a short tutorial or explanation for new users joining discord.

In fact, none of the issues mentioned in the blog post are at all fixed by this proposed username update.

Trying to share your username? good luck when it now has to be the equivalent of a short sentence to be unique! Someone said it to you out loud? cool they forgot which letters they had to replace with numbers because someone had already taken their normal username. This update makes it so that LESS people can have common names.

Your proposed halfway solution would force one third of active users to change their tags.... so instead you're making ALL active users change their tags? and removing support for any users who don't use the latin alphabet??

Add a friend code or invite system. add a short explanation for new users joining the site. Make small, functional changes to improve the rate at which friend requests fail - instead of overhauling the entire tag system functionally for the worst!
