How will removing number discriminators affect older versions of the apps?
Will people using older versions of the apps be forced to update, or will older versions be changed as well to accommodate for this? I assume it's the former, but Discord has explicitly stated many times in the past that they would NEVER force anybody to update if they didn't want to.
This would affect tens, hundreds of thousands, possibly even MILLIONS of people who choose to use older versions of the apps (i.e. android ver 126.21). Number discriminators should be kept, not just for the sake of preventing more unnecessary problems at the cost of fixing few, if any, but also for the sake of all the people who view newer versions as unnecessary or a downgrade from the older ones. The platform as a whole is far too likely to lose more people than it stands to gain by changing the way usernames work. If handle usernames are to be added, they should be supplementary to the current system, for the sake of and benefit of all the people using older versions.
Something needs to be done to allow older versions to stay in use, whether it be having both handles and number discriminators existing at once, by doing the painstakingly difficult process of retroactively updating older versions, or by scrapping the change as a whole. I sincerely hope, for the sake of myself, for people close to me who use older versions, and for millions of others, that something is done to keep things the way they have been.
