An idea to prevent botting on the new username change
Hey there,
I would like to propose a way of making botting useless for the new change to userhandles.
TL;DR: Make it possible to set a number (e.g. 3) userhandles you would like before it is your turn and then run through a batch of them and provide them in order. This would result in botting beeing less effective as there is no advantage of beeing faster than humans or beeing awake at the time you are eligble
What?
Each user should get the option to preselect a set amount of userhanles he/her would like to get. When they are eligble Discord should check if any of them is available and if so automatically set it. This would not change anything with the order discord anounced
Why?
Discord will change to userhandles. As they will be unique there will be username sniping. The order discord is planning will be a good first solution, but it still provides a huge advantage to users that decide to bot it to e.g. check every x seconds and be the first to automatically decide on their handle by running through a large list of usernames.
This would level the playing field between bots and normal users, as everyone would have at least a small list to be instantally checked. It would possible also result in less load of users trying to do it at once as botting would likely become less and users would not check as often themselfs to not miss it
Things to discuss about
- how many usernames should be preselectable
- should you be able to change them again once you set them?
I am looking forward to the communitys feedback and hope the team gives this a thought

I get what you mean and i do not like the change aswell. I do however think that Discord will likely not decide to revert their decision and would like to improve it at least to make it less bad. Just writing do not do it will result in them not considering some options to make it at least not as bad if they decide to do it-3
