Discriminators are good. Don't change them
the issues with discriminators brought up in the update, while valid, seem to be forcing a problem onto the majority of users when it feels like something that only affects a minority of people. global nicknames are one thing but making every user, some of which may not be aware of the update or use their accounts very often, choose a new username is unnecessary.
if forgetting your discriminator is truly the issue then, rather than getting rid of them, allow everyone to change it. not just nitro users. congratulations, now you have a number you'll remember
Edit: I also want to point out that other clients like Battlenet also use discriminators with no issue

+1 this would be a decent solution! Also it's just four numbers. And you can autocopy it from your discord app. it's MONUMENTALLY easy to remember four numbers, but even easier to do so if you choose them yourself. I imagine a lot of people would pick their birth year, or perhaps the last four of their phone number, or something. Any of those would be better and easier than twitter handles.

Actually battlenet is the first thing that came into my mind when I heard that Discord is going to introduce handles, they really should just expand the tag length by one.
