Do NOT change the username system
The new system is so dumb, it is not the future of Discord but instead its downfall.
SO many people are gonna be impacted when they cannot user their preferred username, which is what made Discord great in the first place.
Lots of people could be called the same name without having to add unnecessary periods or dumb variations on their usernames, that was the beauty of it!
Discord is not Twitter, Discord is not the same kind of social media Twitter or Tumblr is, Twitter is a server-based chatting program and treating it like a forum or other kind of social media is ridiculous.
Sure, it has forum-like OPTIONS which are great and dandy for big community servers, but using these is not how Discord is usually operated.
The discriminator is great because EVERYONE has a bunch of numbers attached to their username, a discriminator which you could customize if you wanted to using Nitro but it was something EVERYONE had.
With this change there'd be a disproportionate amount of people who'd have to add numbers to their username in order to have the 'same' username.
Yes it'd solve the problem in the new system but it's a problem the new system created for no good reason other than to masquerade as something it is not.
Let's not forget that content creators or other popular/famous people are gonna have a massive impact on their branding with this as well.
Can you imagine that (as a silly example) Markiplier would have to use 'RealMarkiplier4020' as their OFFICIAL username?
In short, the new username system is flawed because it's put out for no other reason than to be 'like other social media' when Discord is not like other social media and because it inconveniences people all over the platform for no good reason, something an update is NOT supposed to do.
