Blocking
Your blocking system is not only useless but also very harmful.
Currently, when blocking someone, you are not able to send messages back and forth but can still see previous messages, messages sent in shared servers, their profile information including connection socials (e.g. Spotify, Twitch, etc), mutual servers and mutual friends.
If I block someone, I'm doing it either because they are a spam account sending phishing messages, or because that person has gotten to an extreme where I don't feel safe having my profile visible to them. With the current system in place, the latter of those types of blocked accounts can still easily harass and abuse simply because Discord allows it. With Discord allowing users as young as 13 to join their platform, safety surrounding the block feature needs to be investigated.
Therefore, I propose a far more effective blocking system.
If a user blocks another user, both parties should no longer be able to see:
- Message history from the blocker user
-Blocking them for a reason and all message history from them should not be shown nor should they be able to see the blocked user's messages. - Profile information (user info, mutual servers & mutual friends)
-Continuing to allow this enables the blocked user to harass on other platforms such as their Twitch, or in other mutual servers. - Any messages in any mutual servers. This includes the option to show 'blocked messages'.
-Once again, this enables for continued harassment.
Each user should also have the option to:
- Delete all message history with a blocked user. This protects people who may have sent information to a user that they now don't trust, protect personal information, etc.
-I know I suggested to 'hide' the messages of a blocked user but this could provide a safe guard if ever unblocked. - Only see that blocked user's name in a 'Blocked' section of their account information with the option to unblock there.
-If blocked for a harassment or abusive reason, seeing that person's name in mutual Discord servers could still harm the user. They're blocked for a reason, don't show them at all unless that user wants to unblock them.
As a daily user of Discord, please listen to my post and so many other posts asking for change. We wouldn't be asking if we hadn't personally felt the implications that your weak blocking system allows.
Thank you

I think this is generally a good idea. But Discord should definitely give users the options to do stuff like this, not force it, as many people block with the intention of unblocking the following day, etc. So you don't automatically want all your messages deleted.
The profile information bit is definitely a vital change. I'm amazed this already isn't in discord.
