A non-linear role system using role trees
This has been posted before but never gained much traction. Linear roles are great, but only in specific circumstances. Instead, a role tree would be a much better and more intuitive system to use, as roles are probably the most important aspect of discord moderating, yet the system is non ideal.
For example, if you are bringing in multiple small communities of players, say groups from a gaming community for example, you want to have multiple sets of equal roles. However, with current linear roles you end up having to split these groups up so you end up with a tree looking like:
- admin
- top tier
- group 1 top tier
- group 2 top tier
- group 3 top tier
- group 1 mid tier
- group 2 mid tier
- group 3 mid tier
- etc...
and this becomes a nightmare to work with.
Instead allowing creating trees to represent each group would be a much more easily manageable solution, on both small and large servers alike.
Each tree could be set a colour for example, and that colour could then get lighter/darker as you go down the ranks. They could also be assigned roles per tree for example, say one branch can have exclusive access to these sets of channels, instead of having to add permissions for a whole bunch of roles.
This could have endless uses and cut many corners compared to current role management
