How can I unlink my phone number from my Alt account?

Hi, the title is self-explanatory, but I’ve recently added my phone number to my (Alt) account and noticed it removed it from my main account. Attempts to undo this by reentering my number into my main account only prompt an error message. “This Phone number was recently used for a different account.” research into this says I have to either enter a different phone number into my (Alt) to unlink it (I only have one phone number) or delete the account. It did not specify on which I had to delete... Either A: Delete my main account? Or B: Delete my (Alt)

I MUCH prefer if I had to delete my (alt) account rather than my main account. Can someone please help me with this?
