Phone verification lockouts should not be a thing.
When your account gets flagged or when "hamster bot" has "detected something out of the ordinary going on" Discord requires you to verify with a smartphone number in order to continue using your account, this may sound great and secure to some people, but this is indeed very, very flawed.
This is flawed mainly because not everyone has a smartphone, people are locked out of their accounts because of this, they simply don't have a smartphone to pass the verification process. And when submitting a request about this issue the only way Discord will respond to you is with a long automated message explaining how the hamster bot thingy rightfully flagged your account and just a jumble of paragraphs explaining how to verify with a smartphone (even if you explained you don't have one). On a serious note Discord should change this, people shouldn't have to buy a whole new smartphone just to regain access to their account. Perhaps email verification or reCAPTCHA, it should give you several choices for different ways to verify?
Since Discord won't do anything to help with all these phone verification account lockouts why make it a thing to begin with? Why make smartphone numbers the only way to regain access to your own account? When it comes to verification, people should have multiple choices other than just a phone number requirement for verification, this would solve so many problems to account lockouts!
Discord, you must acknowledge this!!!! I'm having this problem right now and i have no clue as to what to do at the moment!

Agreed, and I also would never give them my phone number. If I am to verify, that is the whole point of adding an email. Phones are NOT needed at all. If they force it, then I will just stop using Discord. I already know how to write my own chat program.
