I've had too many friends, both on steam and discord, be hacked due to their own mistake of clicking images and links by phishers and whalers.
Discord has done absolutely nothing to mitigate this server side, images can be hidden inside images and still be previewable if under a certain size limit. If nothings going to be done server side, atleast make a way to make a kill switch linked to phone number or the previous email holder, and when doing so regenerates your user token or some octate of it.
Say, setup a code on a line and if the code is correct either by PRIOR email or text the messages will be hidden to all viewers, almost when you block somebody, except vice versa.
Unfortunately the daunting task of trying to educate people on safe links is just too vast, some people make stupid mistakes, and instead of just saying "You're done, make a new account, contact support, and hope nobody else gets hacked before you can stressfully warn them." There needs to be a failsafe. This is a must, botnets have been a issue for almost a decade now, yet very little portion seems to realize that education does not equal 100% success rate on teaching one. I've lost a lot of friends on Discord and steam because of this, some which I managed to get into contact again, but others just faded. For a platform that is all about being a community, botnets are a absolute thorn. Sure, you can enable 2 factor authenticator, but if somebody has your token, good luck!
