This username thing is the worst decision that you’ve ever made
Even though I made my account in June of 2016 and have had Nitro for years, I still lost my username.
The reasons this company gave for its changes were just frankly, complete bull. This company deserves to suffer for this. I hope they collapse and a competitor takes their place. What a god awful decision with clearly no thought behind it. I’ve begun telling my users to move to a different platform. This company and platform have gone to shit. Stop giving them your money.

I feel this and completely agree with it. It's crap and Discord is quite lucky that there isn't really any other competitors yet, because if they keep this up I can see a similar "mass exodus" that happened to Skype when Discord took off (when Skype was getting really bad - just like Discord is currently getting - people moved platforms. That's partly where there are so many 2016 users.). When I can find a good alternative, I and my server are moving platforms unless these poor decisions get reversed. Discord has become too money-hungry all while ignoring user feedback. They don't deserve our support.
I made my Discord account in 2015 around the time Discord first came out and I also lost my username. This change is completely unnecessary. There's no reason to go from username#0123 to username0123 or .username or WHATEVER. This change looks bad, it makes it easier for people to stalk, and it makes usernames really difficult to get. Terrible decision on a social platform.
