Username Policy Changes Showcase that Discord Does Not Care About it's Users
I have been on this app since around 2016ish, not as long as some but I've seen many changes over the course of the past few years.
I was there when discord originally gave you access to a games vault for being a nitro subscriber and then subsequently removed that.
I was paying for nitro when all it did was give you access to emotes from other servers, a unique discriminator and gif profile pictures.
But this most recent change showcases just how little discord cares about their userbase anymore. Despite feedback for the past month constantly echoing the same opinion, that nobody wanted this change, discord went through with it regardless. The community reddit is on fire, the community forums are on fire and even on Twitter I've seen people complaining that they've had to add underscores, dashes and periods to their names in order to claim the same username they've had for the past several years. There are petitions on Change.org even requesting discord to listen to their fans.
The words are met with a hollow and empty silence. A silence that shows that discord does not believe that they need to listen to supporters of their site. Discord has made it clear that they aim to crush the voices of discontent by simply ignoring them, that they believe with enough time this issue will surely become acceptable as a mainstay feature of the app.
I will no longer be supporting discord, after 6 years of paying for nitro, it is clear to me that discord doesn't need my support nor do they seem to want it.
All I can say is I hope others do the same, don't support a company that doesn't listen to its supporters.
