I am canceling my Nitro because of the username change and I urge you to do the same
The username change is not a change being made with the users in mind. It is a decision being made because of money, and because of Discord's own inability to explain to its own userbase how it is supposed to work. There are ways to make the discriminator feature more accessible without completely getting rid of it.
It makes absolutely no sense for this change to be made at all. Already, several people with large followings and established presences are unable to choose their usernames despite being on the platform for a very long time with the usernames they already have. Not only is this a very poorly made and thought-out change that does nothing good for its userbase, it is being implemented in an even worse manner that can only be explained as an unbelievably magnificent oversight on Discord's part.
Nintendo has friend codes that are much longer than Discord's discriminators that their users have been acquainted with for years, and yet Discord is changing their discriminator feature to limit people to completely unreadable and incomprehensible usernames because someone else took John, John1, John_2, Jo_hn._.3, etc, for what reason, exactly?
If the userbase doesn't know what a discriminator is, then that is Discord's fault for not explaining it.
Perhaps, to make things easier, we should have the ability to send people little Discord profiles in order to friend them, similar to how you can send people contacts through text messages on an iPhone. Maybe links to a person's profile to be able to send to other people so that discriminators are less of a hassle to remember and it's less of a hassle to type out the username of someone who isn't using letters on a typical keyboard (such as in another language or with fonts).
You can argue that people might use this for nefarious reasons, but there's nothing stopping people from copying and pasting other users names and usernames to do the same exact thing.
Maybe to make this less of an issue you could only have the ability to send people's profiles if you're friends with that person, or make that a feature to toggle on/off.
There are many better ways to have gone about this than a name change that nobody wants, needs or asked for, and objectively makes one of the biggest points of having a Discord account entirely moot. I liked that I could change my name to almost whatever I wanted whenever I wanted because there could be about 9999 people with the username "KN" on Discord. But now I'll have to change it to something else because undoubtedly there is already someone with the "KN" username.
This is an awful update and I hope Discord rolls it back. But for now, I'm canceling my Nitro because of this poorly thought out update.

I canceled mine, and when they asked why I canceled, I clicked "Other" and wrote because of the new Pomelo Username System (Removal of #0000). I doubt it'll do anything; it's clear Discord doesn't need the approval of their userbase to roll out changes. :(

I'm also cancelling. Not like they'll care though.

dont have nitro but told a friend to if they still have it

I cancelled mine back when the announcement came out. If I didn't have friends here I'd just abandon the platform altogether based on how they have handled this.

Same, I was even looking for alternatives that would allow me to import discord servers in someway [if that's even possible]

Yeah this is stupid. I'm Twisted_Code and I'm not inclined to change that because I happened to choose two generic words. Maybe I'll just put my discriminator on the end of it? But what's wrong with the discriminators in the first place? The Emperor has no clothes.

I'm still looking for alternatives. Most of what I'm finding so far is either too business orientated, or not organise-friendly enough. Even if they don't use denominators, I'm at a point where I'd leave just to make a point. It's a real shame. I've enjoyed Discord since 2015. It's had problems for a while now, but this was the final straw for me. If I can find something for me and my pals, I'm outtie.
One interesting thing I noticed during my search is that a lot of the more business orientated chat services... cost significantly less than Nitro, especially for boosted servers, and there's literally no reason for Discord to charge so much in comparison. What a shocker.
