Discord AI Scraping

Discord recently introduced a highlights feature, reading past messages to produce summaries. The notifications can be turned off but the data scraping can't be. The only way this could be accomplished is using AI to take text in every channel and scrape it. None of the feature announcements mention this, Discord seems to be trying to do it quietly. 

This is illegal.

I also learned, when writing this post as a PSA, that Discord removed key terms in their TOS that protect against theft of imagery, text, streaming content, and voice content, which lines up with using the text scraping tool. 

This is also illegal. 

Discord does not use this feedback site to take in feedback, so I ask all users to stop wasting their time here, cancel all subscriptions, and put as much pressure on Discord as possible, ESPECAILLY legal pressure if possible because there are privacy laws in some places. Or go to another platform, or help develop alternative platforms that will survive when the combination of vulture capitalism and illegal things like this brings discord down.

    Discord does not care about legality of their actions as long as it doesn't produce bad press. Send your findings around to journalists.
