Revise Discord's 2FA Policy to Prevent Unjust Account Lockouts

As many of you know about this issue, which is an important issue that has affected me and many other users due to Discord’s current Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) policy. I am a long-time user and Nitro subscriber, but recently I faced a severe issue that has significantly impacted my personal and professional life. I believe it’s time for Discord to review and update its 2FA policy to prevent such situations in the future.

In June 2023, after replacing my phone, I lost access to my authenticator app and subsequently my Discord account. Despite having the same phone number and multiple ways to verify my identity, including all necessary forms of identification and connections, I have been unable to regain access to my account. This has caused me to lose important contacts, servers, and information, including my company’s server.

Moreover, despite being locked out, I was still charged for my Nitro subscription. Unable to cancel it through the usual channels due to the lockout, I had to cancel my card to stop the charges. My repeated attempts to contact customer service have only resulted in automated responses, offering no real solutions.

I am not alone in this struggle. Many users have faced similar issues with Discord’s 2FA policy. The inability to recover accounts, despite providing comprehensive proof of ownership, highlights a significant flaw in Discord’s security and customer service protocols. This has caused users to lose valuable business and personal connections and forced them to start from scratch.
