The quality is already almost on level with Teamspeak and Humble without upgrade. Plus, Discord isn’t only a voice platform, it has tons of other features as well. And it costs Discord to upgrade voice servers so I think it’s reasonable allowing it to be available via server boosting and partnership/verification programs.

Open the Discord website, and it says, "It's time to ditch Skype and TeamSpeak. All-in-one voice and text chat" so they clearly state that they are mainly a platform for voice chat, they even say voice before chat.

Yes, I agree that they can even more, and that is the reason I use it instead. And I know that it costs money to upgrade servers to get more performance.

But I don't think that this is the right way to collect the money for something that should be one of the main points for EVERY user and not only them who can effort it.

And what is with direct connections without a server? How can they get better quality?

I think it would also be very reasonable to sell the voice quality separately at a much lower price. If voice quality is all you care about and don't want any of the other features like more emojis.
