Under 13 Rule
This may seem long, but please hear me out.
First of all, COPPA states that if an under 13 has parental permission, they can get data collected, which means they are technically allowed to use Discord.
Many ppl under 13 also want to chat. Some children have friends they want to chat with easily during the pandemic. Unfortunately, they cannot do it due to the 13 year old rule.
I suggest the rules be amended so that those under 13 have to have all their content filtered, have register with a parent account (Must be 18 years old) to make sure that parents approve of Discord for their younger child. NSFW channels will be invisible to people under 13 years old and kids cannot send friend requests without their parent's permission. Also, kids cannot chat in voice channels except with their friends and bots.
All accounts that are disabled for being under 13 should be reactivated and marked as Under 13 accounts and a parent would need to make an account and give approval or say the child is already over 13, which would make their accounts normal accounts.

I agree, but parents should have options of how their child can communicate with the outside world too, not Discord setting the rules, for example, their child can or can't send/accept friend requests without permission, among other rules.
This allows the parents to control how restrictive their child must be in Discord, or otherwise (enabling all rules, practically allowing them full features for 13+ users excluding NSFW channel access, if their parents allowed them to do so within the rules that they set.)
This also provides flexibility, for example, children close to turning 13 (maybe already in the year of which they will turn 13, but still isn't close to their birthday month and date.) might be able to given full access as I describe above (all rules enabled), or for parents who are very restrictive about communicating with the outside without their permission (all rules disabled, very restrictive).5 -
No, you don't get it, discord can't do shit. they can't just implement features to disobey the law. It's litterally illegal for discord to collection data from children under 13. No matter how many "requirement of guadian for features" or "guardian permission". Even with that. All their telemetries and cookies collect data of a child under 13, they can't just know the person is under 13 and the person they are talking to is actually also under 13! Guardian permission can also be easily faked! If they had to do this, they need to restrict the whole platform, because they don't actually know who is under 13 or not

in another post similar to this a dude said that why not make another app because facebook has messenger and messenger kids. children could go in the kids one. of course ya'll gonna come at me for saying this but i won't give a single shit.

I do not agree with this, because THEY RE SO DAMN ANNOYING. They mic spam, text spam, talk shit, and are just so stupid. I really hope this doesn't happen.

I agree with this. Kind of like how YouTube Kids is set up, if you sign up with an underage birthday, you're restricted to say, 5-10 servers, and all friend requests, server joins, are sent to the parent's phone, so even when they are away from the child's PC/Tablet/Phone, the parents know who and where the child is communicating.
Nitro and Nitro Gifting will be restricted so that the child can't buy it without a parent's permission. A Nitro Purchase request will be sent to the parent's phone, with the type of subscription (Nitro Normal or Classic), duration of the subscription, (Monthly/Yearly), and the price of the subscription. The parent can approve or decline the purchase request.
In the case an OVER 13 user signs up for Discord using an underage birthday on accident, there can be a new feature called "ID Scanner" Which will prompt you to have your ID and Face in a clear photo. After discord verifies that it is said user, they can allow them to change their birth date.
Of course, all servers aren't required to allow under 13's if this were to happen, Just like how there are 18+ servers around Discord that don't allow anyone from 13-17.
And about the ones who are annoying. Yes. I have met a lot of annoying people on this site, found out they were underage, and got them banned. This one is up to the parents to see if their child is mature enough for Discord.
It's simple. If the parent observes that their child is still immature, they can use external parental controls on their devices to prevent them from downloading apps without approval. That's all I have to say about the matter. Have a good day.3 -

also, doesn’t the discord Tos state that if you are under 13 you must have your legal guardian review and agree to the ToS and then people under 13 will then be able to use discord. I could be wrong, though.Most of the rules stating that your age must almost 13 or the minimum age of 13.
both mean that you can be under the age of 13 as long as it’s close to 13, like 12.

So true, but you can still got report for being underage and maybe got ban also discord can sometimes have inappropriate stuff in it and there is a lot of severs with children in it and they just don’t know, kids are already getting away from apps for 13+ because like come on kids are not dumb and they don’t care and a lot of kids have their own account these days but I do agree

I think that kids below 13 should be allowed to use discord if they’re only in servers with IRL friends, which would be helpful for people who have younger siblings who want to use VC for Minecraft or something.

Look. How about this. I have my reasons. I'll tell you what's gonna happen.
1. Children under 13 should use Discord because children in most countries, 10 years old is already a teen in Hong Kong.
2. You know, as a teen, we are needed to spend time with others, especially when something/someone special is leaving, gone etc. Teens need to support each other and learn to be kind, we are strong.
3.Teens are hard on themselves. If they don't do something well, they do need support.
4.Teens can learn to be safe. Teens can learn how and why some people are bad. Even when they learned before, they can be encouraged to talk to their parents.
5.Guardian. In Most cities, if you have a guardian and they agree to use discord, then they should be allowed to use it, especially if it takes off their worries.
6. Study groups. When people and teens needed help, they can talk to others.
7.Youtube. I was in a youtube series for discord. But now I might not be in it anymore.
8. COPPA said "If you have parent's permission, you can acess any web that parents approve of.
9. Medical issues. If you have emotion issues, then you can talk to others. I haven't been feeling hungry lately, and I haven't been eating breakfast. But after that, I eat to much.
10. Emotion issues. My best friend, favorite teacher, library buddy, and a friend left and leaving. I'm trying to get my mind off it, but discord, you need to learn something. Now I lost 4 online trustworthy friends on discord! And I cry every night.
Please let me have my account back.
To be honest, adults should have control over their account. Or are you just here to be famous and not improve the world?

I think there should be discord kids too. But then the parents have an extra responsibility that they should watch over their kids messages. They should also check message history and make sure they dont like mess up stuff

Seriously, keep the kids off of Discord. Stuff like this is the reason why an lot of people are losing their accounts
