WHY IS DISCORD ASKING FOR MY BIRTHDAY?
Discord's Terms of Service requires people to be over a minimum age to access our app or website, so we are introducing a system to verify that users satisfy that minimum age requirement. We do this to keep our users safe and ensure they don't encounter material that's not appropriate for them.
For all countries not listed below, 13 is the minimum age to access our app or website.

Since the world has moved on, and kids much younger than 13 ar playing online these days, wouldn't it be relevant if you made a Kid account, that would have to be tied to a parent account, where the parent had some governing oppotunities??? Reality is that this 13 years of age barrier, just makes kids lie about their age on account creation.

Dutchy seems weird that it wouldn't be possible, why can companies such as Microsoft or Nintendo do it but discord can't?

Nintendo is for kids, its much more regulated than discord.
Discord has less protection against the type of people that 13 years old or less could encounter.

Imagine Discord asking for ID... that would age gate a lot of people coming into discord.

What about Hong Kong, google play store said that it is for 12 years old in Hong Kong or above but Discord ToS said 13 years old or above, which one is correct?

Well, The TOS states that you have to be 13+ or older if you live in another country other than the ones listed, so that would mean you have to be like 13+ to use discord in Hong Kong.

well in my country basically the movies that are 13+ show them on the TV and it doesn't say 13+ but says 12 + can watch it so I still don't understand can 12-year-old people from my country join discord or not.

There absolutely is a point, it's creating a reasonable assumption on the user's age. Let's say it's illegal for me to ask for ingame mail and e-mail of a 12 y.o. because it's personal information. I can still ask discord users for that info in my MMO guild application because I have the assumption that users are 13+. While I'm not a lawyer my understanding is that I'm in a much better standing justifying why I solicited personal info from a 12 y.o. if they've lied about their age.

In the end it has to do with stuff outside their control via COPPA, which in the end is legal law for the company.
For good reference regardless of where you live in the world some other places have legal laws about when someone can be accessing content for example in Italy you need to be 14+ and if you go look there's an actual law about it It's mostly put in place to prevent younger kids from seeing stuff unfiltered online, So that rule is there for a reason or discord can actually get into trouble for having a underage user exposed to random people / content online because there's no way a parent is going prevent that unless they're beside 24/7 but we all know parents don't want to watch 24/7.3 -
Bro , there are a lot of servers for Roblox , Minecraft etc. Do you think a 15-16+ kid will chat on these? Also if you have your legal age to stay on discord what abt nsfw server , many with child **%$@. Are they legal?

Google play rated it with parental alowance, and I kinda belive that would be more correct.

I Hope this age restriction Helps kids are not Access This platform Has a lot of Bad words Non-offensive,12+ south America and Europe, I don't know if Discord Banned Kids for Making Jokes about Mature age?.

Discord being 13+ is honestly a great thing and it needs to stay like this even if ppl lie about their age it isn't hard to divide the ppl into the agegroup they are. As my experience as a staff of a 300k+ member server I can say that it's really good the 13+ requirement exist bc u don't get protected from anything and everything is scuffed. I would honestly even support discord making it 15+ or even like 16+. It would fix a lot of trolling ppl and children clicking on the scam links bc they don't really have experience. On the other hand I think that the parent linked account seems like a good idea but hard to still put in the existing discord environment.

NicoRonchetti I know why Discord Has Enforcing, lied the Ages for No reason but I know why It's Hard The moderation Banning some Kids from entering for No reason To Ask their age.

I don't see why kids under 13 can't join Discord. What's the problem with them? All they wanna do is chat with friends and join a server of their favorite game.
